Sagic is short for the Salvation Army General Insurance Corporation Ltd. It was established in 1909 by the Salvation Army and describes itself as one of the oldest continuously operating ethical insurers, with profits benefiting the less privileged in society.

It offers one standard home insurance policy, named House and Home, which we've reviewed.

Quotes are available online or by calling direct, or via a broker. Sagic's standard policy does not appear on price comparison websites.

‘Great cover for both buildings and contents’

Dean Sobers, Which? home insurance expert, says:

Dean Sobers

House and Home scored well in our analysis. Its Best Buy buildings and contents cover – with scores of 74% and 75% respectively – was towards the top end of the policies we examined.

Highlights include no fees for policy setup, renewal or amendments, and no interest charged for making payments monthly.

It offers robust cover of up to £2,500 for lost or stolen keys, and a 20% boost in your contents cover during holidays, religious festivals and special events (this is to allow for presents or costly items you may be storing related to the festivities).

It also protects contents kept by a family member who is temporarily living away as a student, up to £10,000.

While its cover was fairly consistent, it was less impressive in a few areas, including a lack of cover for damage caused by pets. It also only pays up to £500 per emergency call-out under its home emergency cover. With more than two thirds of policies, this limit is £1,000 or higher.

Notice period

Sometimes, because of a change in your circumstances or a missed payment, the insurer may deem it necessary to cancel your insurance.

With more than half of policies, the notice period is seven days – which isn't much time to either try to challenge the decision, rectify what’s happened or secure more cover. Of more than 70 policies we rated, Sagic’s gave the most breathing space, with 30 days' notice.

How can you save money on Sagic home insurance?

Sagic doesn't sell home insurance on comparison websites, so you'll need to phone, visit the website or contact a broker for a quote.

Sagic offers a 5% discount for taking out both buildings and contents cover.

Want to pay monthly? Good news: Sagic doesn't charge interest for paying monthly rather than annually.

The above information is correct as of August 2025. For more ways to save money when buying insurance, see our guide.

How does Sagic compare with other providers?

Sagic's building cover for its standard House and Home policy scored 74%, just below LV's standard policy with 76%.

As for contents insurance, its standard policy scored 75%, beaten by Which? Recommended Provider NFU Mutual's standard policy, with 78%.
